Divorce & Separation

  • A power of attorney allows a person to nominate someone else to act on their behalf, usually in the event of absence or incapacity.

  • An advance heathcare directive (or living will) allows a person to specify what medical actions should be taken in the event of illness or incapacity.

Guardianship

  • Guardianships offer protection to children and vulnerable adults by assigning certain rights and responsibilities to a family member or caretaker.

  • Conservatorships ensure accountability and transparency in managing another person’s finances.

Name & Gender Changes

  • You have a constitutional right to any name that is not obscene, fraudulent, or overly burdensome. Parents or guardians can seek a name change on behalf of a minor child at any age.

  • Adults can obtain a gender marker change as long as it is not sought for a wrongful or fraudulent purpose.

  • Parents or guardians can change the gender marker of a minor aged sixteen or seventeen.

Child Advocacy (PGAL)

  • When there are allegations of emotional abuse or doubts about the best interests of children, a private guardian ad litem can help. We‘ve been appointed to represent children across the state in all types of cases.
